The Venture Capital World Summit in Nairobi runs for a single day, on Wednesday 30 September 2026, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at The Promenade in Westlands. For most investors and founders, though, the summit is the anchor of a longer trip: a portfolio check-in on Monday, a pitch on Thursday, a diligence visit that only fits on Friday. How you shape the days around the summit decides how much you get from the journey. This guide walks through a practical multi-day plan and how to choose where to stay.

Start with the meetings, not the summit
Before you book flights, list every meeting you hope to hold and mark each as fixed, flexible or "if time allows". Then work outwards from 30 September. A simple rule helps: the summit day itself is rarely a good day for other commitments, because the programme runs into the afternoon and cross-city travel in Nairobi takes time.
- Fixed meetings: portfolio board sessions, signing conversations, meetings with limited partners in the region.
- Flexible meetings: first conversations with founders, coffee with co-investors, catch-ups with local advisers.
- If time allows: office visits, a product walk-through, a second conversation after the summit.
Once the list is clear, you will usually see whether you need one extra night or three.
How many nights to book
| Your trip | Suggested nights | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Summit only, arriving from within the region | 2 | Arrive the day before, leave the morning after, with no rush on summit day. |
| Summit plus a few founder meetings | 3 to 4 | One day before for preparation and one or two after for follow-ups. |
| Summit, portfolio visits and diligence | 5 or more | Leaves room for meetings that move, and for rest after a long-haul flight. |
| Business trip with time in Kenya | Add 1 to 3 | A park morning or a longer safari after your final meeting. |
Our booking engine does not assume event dates. Choose every night you need, including the arrival night and any follow-up days.
A sample five-day plan
This is an illustration, not the official summit programme. Always check timings with the organiser.
Day 1: arrive and reset
Land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and take a private transfer to Karen. Check-in is from 12:00 and our front desk is open around the clock, so an evening arrival is no trouble. Keep the first evening light: dinner at the hotel, a look at the week's diary, an early night.
Day 2: preparation and first conversations
Use the morning for calls with your home office, then hold one or two flexible meetings. If your meetings are in different parts of the city, group them by area to reduce time on the road.
Day 3: summit day, 30 September
The summit opens at 9:00 AM in Westlands, across the city from Karen. Ask us for a packed breakfast if you plan to leave before our breakfast service. Afterwards, the late afternoon is a natural moment for a follow-up coffee with someone you met that day.
Day 4: follow-up meetings
This is where the value of the trip often sits. Schedule the second conversations the summit created, and keep a gap in the afternoon for anything that comes up.
Day 5: a slower finish
Write up your notes from the desk in your room, then enjoy a morning at the Giraffe Centre or on a half-day tour of Nairobi National Park before your flight.

Moving around the city
Nairobi traffic is the variable that upsets most business itineraries. Karen is in the south-west of the city, and Westlands is on the other side of it. Allow generous time for every cross-city journey, especially at morning and evening peaks. Journey times vary with Nairobi traffic; check a live traffic app for your schedule.
We can quote transport to the summit and to your meetings on request, which saves you arranging a car each time. Airport transfers are priced per vehicle, one way: US$55 for a JKIA sedan (up to 3 people) or US$95 for a JKIA 4×4 (up to 6). See our airport transfer page for Wilson Airport options.
Working between meetings
A follow-up week means a lot of work in your room: investment memos, calls across time zones, updates to your partners. When you compare hotels, check the basics that matter for this:
- A proper work desk in the room. Every room at Karen Plains Hotel has one.
- Reliable internet. Our Wi-Fi runs on Starlink.
- Backup power. A generator covers guest rooms and Wi-Fi during power cuts.
- A place to meet. Our boardroom and lounge can be booked; ask us for rates.
- Meals without a trip out. Lunch and dinner at the hotel can be added for US$40 per day, with Kenyan, Swahili and traditional African food at the centre of the menu.
Leave room for Kenya
Many visitors fly a long way for a one-day summit and leave without seeing anything beyond meeting rooms. From Karen, a few hours is enough for something memorable. The Giraffe Centre, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, the Karen Blixen Museum and Nairobi National Park are all in or near Karen. If you have more time, our partner Travel Corporation Limited at The Hub Karen can plan and quote a longer safari; park fees are extra and wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.
For a quieter evening, our partner spa, Manama Spa & Barbershop, is a short drive away. Staying guests get free pickup and drop-off, and treatments are booked and paid directly with Manama.
