Choosing a hotel for a Nairobi summit trip looks simple until the diary fills up. The investor wants somewhere calm to think. The founder needs good value and a reliable connection for a pitch call. The executive assistant needs clear terms, an invoice and one person to message when a flight changes. This checklist covers what each of them should ask before booking, whether the trip is for the Venture Capital World Summit on 30 September 2026 or any other week of meetings in the city.

First decision: where to be based
Nairobi is spread out, and traffic shapes every plan. Before comparing hotels, decide what matters more to you: being close to one venue, or having a comfortable base for a whole week.
- If your trip is one packed day, staying near the venue may be the simplest choice. The summit is at The Promenade in Westlands.
- If your trip is several days of meetings in different places, a quieter base can matter more than distance to one address. Karen, in south-west Nairobi, is across the city from Westlands, so plan summit-day travel with care.
- If you want a little of Kenya too, the Giraffe Centre, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and Nairobi National Park are all in or near Karen.
Whichever you choose, journey times vary with Nairobi traffic; check a live traffic app for your schedule.
For investors: a place to think clearly
- Room to work. Look for a real desk, not a dressing table. Our Executive Room is our finest room, with a king bed and extra space to work.
- A dependable connection. Ask what the Wi-Fi runs on and what happens in a power cut. Ours runs on Starlink, and a generator covers guest rooms and Wi-Fi.
- Somewhere to meet. Ask whether a meeting space can be booked and how it is priced. Our boardroom and lounge can be booked; we quote rates on request.
- A way to switch off. After a long day, a balcony or a bath helps. Our Deluxe Room with Bathtub and Balcony is our most requested room.
- Help beyond the hotel. Ask whether the hotel can arrange a park visit or a longer safari after the last meeting.
For founders: value without surprises
- Know the real total. Compare the room rate with what you will add: transfers, meals, laundry. Our extras are listed clearly: lunch and dinner for US$40 per day, laundry at US$20 per bag.
- Pick the room you need. Our Standard Room with Balcony and Standard Room without Balcony are value options, and the Deluxe Room has a king bed and a proper workspace.
- Protect the pitch. Rehearse in your room the night before, and have a plan for the morning: we can prepare a packed breakfast if you need to leave early.
- Park if you are driving. Free on-site parking helps if you are coming from elsewhere in Kenya.
- Pay the way that suits you. We accept card and M-PESA.

What to be realistic about
A good hotel makes a business trip easier, but it cannot do everything. Be clear on what is and is not included before you arrive.
- Summit registration is separate from accommodation and handled by the organiser. Karen Plains Hotel is independent and not affiliated with Venture Capital World Summit.
- We help with travel and logistics. We do not arrange investor or founder meetings.
- If your meeting needs a private space, book the boardroom in advance and ask what it includes.
- Extras such as transfers, tours and spa visits are quoted and confirmed separately.
