Staying with relatives is lovely, but a property trip has its own rhythm: early starts, late calls with advisers in another time zone, and papers spread across a table. A base of your own means you can work and rest on your own schedule, then spend unhurried time with family when the day's work is done. Arrival: the first 24 hours
- Book your transfer before you fly. Private transfers are priced per vehicle, one way: JKIA sedan US$55 for up to 3 people, JKIA 4×4 Land Cruiser US$95 for up to 6, Wilson sedan US$45, Wilson 4×4 US$85. The 4×4 suits families travelling together. Details are on our airport transfer page.
- Know the timings. Check-in is from 12:00. If you land early, we offer luggage storage while you wait. The front desk is open 24/7.
- Payments. We accept card and M-PESA.
- Sleep first. Resist booking viewings on day one. A clear head matters for what comes next.

Choosing the right room for weeks, not nights
- One Bedroom Apartment: a separate living area and kitchen facilities. It suits longer stays and families.
- Executive Room: our finest room, with a king bed and extra space to work.
- Deluxe Room with Bathtub and Balcony: our most requested room, with a private balcony and a bathtub.

Balancing family time and property decisions
An illustrative three-week shape, which you can adapt:
- Week one: settle in, see close family, and attend the Kenya Homes Expo at KICC, which is in the CBD across the city from Karen. Journey times vary with Nairobi traffic; check a live traffic app for your schedule.
- Week two: viewings arranged directly with developers or agents, grouped by area, and meetings with your own advisers.
- Week three: review what you have learned, rest, and enjoy the start of December. A Giraffe Centre visit or a Nairobi National Park half-day tour is a good outing with children or older relatives.

Protecting yourself on a property trip
We are a hotel, so we can't offer investment advice or tell you which developer to trust. What we can share are some common-sense steps:
- Do your own due diligence with qualified professionals, such as your own advocate, rather than relying on sales materials alone.
- See the property or land in person before committing.
- Keep copies of everything you are given, and share them with your advisers.
- Take your time. A decision made after the trip, with proper advice, is still a good decision.

- A folder or laptop for brochures, plans and notes.
- Comfortable shoes for viewings.
