Giraffe Centre Tour from Karen Plains Hotel
The African Fund for Endangered Wildlife's Giraffe Centre is one of Nairobi's most distinctive and memorable experiences. It houses a breeding programme for the endangered Rothschild giraffe and allows visitors unusually close contact with the animals from an elevated feeding platform. Karen Plains Hotel is approximately 10 to 15 minutes from the Giraffe Centre.
The Experience
Visitors stand on a raised platform at eye level with the giraffes and hand-feed them pellets. The experience is intimate, genuinely engaging, and highly photogenic. A visit typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours. The centre also has guided walking trails, conservation education, a cafe, and a gift shop. Entry is approximately 850 KES per adult.
Combining the Giraffe Centre with Other Attractions
The Giraffe Centre pairs naturally with a morning National Park game drive or with the Karen Blixen Museum. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant orphans experience is also nearby for a full day of wildlife encounters.
