Staying Beyond Powerelec? Plan Accommodation for Project Meetings and Site Visits

Trade shows start conversations; the week after is where many of them turn into something real. If Powerelec Kenya (10–12 November 2026, Sarit Expo Centre) is likely to lead to a developer meeting, a distributor review or a look at a project you are pricing, it often makes sense to keep someone in Nairobi for a few more days rather than fly out and back. Here is how to plan that extra time so it stays productive and comfortable.

Is it worth extending?

Ask three questions before you change any flights:

  • Are meetings likely rather than possible? If a prospective EPC partner or investor has already suggested a follow-up, pencil in dates during the show and hold the room.
  • Does anything need to be seen in person? A rooftop you are quoting, a mini-grid you are bidding on or a distributor's warehouse is easier to assess on the ground than on a call.
  • Who is the right person to stay? Often it is one commercial lead and one engineer, not the whole stand team.

If the answer to the first two is yes, book the extra nights now. You choose the dates in the booking engine, and changes depend on the rate you pick, so read the terms before paying.

A sample follow-up week

This is an illustration to help you plan, not a schedule we operate:

Day Focus What to arrange
First day after the show Rest, debrief, sort leads Book the boardroom or lounge for a team debrief (ask for rates); send laundry
Days two and three Meetings in town with partners, distributors or financiers Transport quoted on request; packed breakfast if you leave early
Day four Site visit outside the city Vehicle quoted on request; access, safety induction and PPE arranged with the project owner
Day five Write-up and proposals A desk in your room, Starlink Wi-Fi, lunch and dinner at the hotel
Weekend Time off before the flight Giraffe Centre, Nairobi National Park or a longer safari through our partner

Site visits: what we can help with, and what we can't

We can help you plan the day, quote a vehicle, and arrange a packed breakfast for an early departure. What we cannot do is get you onto a site. Energy projects have their own rules, so settle these directly with the developer or asset owner before you travel:

  • Written permission and a named contact on site.
  • Safety induction requirements and the PPE you need to bring.
  • Photography and data restrictions.
  • Realistic timing. Rural roads and Nairobi traffic both vary, so build in slack and check a live traffic app on the day.

We can't promise EV charging at the hotel, so if an electric vehicle is part of your visit, plan charging independently.

Living well on a longer business stay

A few extra nights changes what you need from a hotel. These are the things that tend to matter by day five:

  • Clean clothes: laundry is wash, dry and fold, US$20 per bag.
  • Food that isn't another conference sandwich: Kenyan, Swahili and traditional African cooking is central to how we feed guests. Lunch and dinner can be added for US$40 per day.
  • A reliable connection: Starlink Wi-Fi, a work desk in every room, and a generator that keeps guest rooms and Wi-Fi running during power cuts.
  • Somewhere to walk: The Waterfront Karen is a few steps away. Cave à Manger, a wine-paired restaurant, is in the same arcade.
  • Someone to ask: our long-stay concierge can help with Nairobi navigation, personal shopping and business itineraries. Costs are quoted before anything is arranged.

Want us to quote the whole thing, from show nights to the follow-up week? Ask your KPH concierge on WhatsApp.

Choosing a room for more than a few nights

  • One Bedroom Apartment: a separate living area and kitchen facilities. It suits a longer stay, when a bedroom alone starts to feel small.
  • Executive Room: our finest room, with a king bed and extra space to work.
  • King Room with Balcony: a private balcony for thinking time between calls.

Some of our premium rooms also have a hot tub. Ask us which are available for your dates. Current rates are in the booking engine.

Where the meetings are

Karen is in south-west Nairobi. Sarit Expo Centre is in Westlands, north of the CBD and on the other side of the city. Plan meeting clusters by area so you are not crossing town twice a day. Journey times vary with Nairobi traffic; check a live traffic app for your schedule.

Budget checklist for an extended stay

  • Room nights: live rates in the booking engine.
  • Meals: US$40 per day for lunch and dinner, if added.
  • Laundry: US$20 per bag.
  • Airport transfer home: from US$45 (Wilson sedan) to US$95 (JKIA 4×4), per vehicle, one way.
  • Meeting and site-visit transport: quoted on request.
  • Boardroom or lounge: ask for rates.
  • Weekend tours: see the Nairobi National Park half-day tour and Giraffe Centre tour. Longer safaris are quoted and operated by our partner Travel Corp, with park fees extra.
