Karen Blixen Museum Tour | Karen Plains Hotel, Karen Nairobi

Karen Blixen Museum Tour from Karen Plains Hotel

The Karen Blixen Museum occupies the actual farmhouse where Karen Blixen lived from 1914 to 1931 and wrote her memoir Out of Africa. It is one of the most quietly compelling cultural sites in East Africa, a preserved period home with views toward the Ngong Hills she described. Karen Plains Hotel is in the same neighbourhood as the museum and named after Blixen herself.

The Visit

The museum offers guided tours of the farmhouse rooms. The guides provide context that significantly enriches the visit. Budget 90 minutes to two hours. Entry is approximately 600 KES per adult.

Who Should Visit

Particularly worthwhile for guests who have read Out of Africa or seen the 1985 film, literary and cultural travelers, and guests interested in Kenya's colonial history and its complex legacy.
